Our Ford 10 inch is purpose built from top to bottom with maximum durability for demolition derby in mind.

We start with a ¼” Grade 70 fabricated housing that utilizes 4” OD ½” thick DOM axle tubes that are internally gusseted to the center housing.  The housing is CNC machined flat and true after welding before we begin assembly.

 

What really sets this apart is the 10” third member.  We start with a Gearworks American made nodular iron case featuring 3.812” carrier bearings.  This provides the ability to run a larger and stronger bearing than the typical aftermarket cases which utilize a 3.25″ carrier bearing.

 

The GearWorks 3.812″ case assembly uses an industry standard (not automotive) longer pinion pocket bearing for additional pinion support with a bearing retainer plate secured with three countersunk socket head cap screws.  To guard against deflection, spanner nut ejection and subsequent gear failure the main bearing caps and spanner nuts are made from chromoly steel. Held Tight by massive 9/16″ ARP studs and hardware.  The case is CNC machined to clear a ring gear with a true outer diameter of 9.500” and four of the five 7/16″ pinion support bolt holes are drilled and tapped blind to avoid sealing issues.  This is rounded out with a billet pinion support that has special lubrication passages to the bearings not found in typical drag racing pinion supports.

 

This center section is assembled with a U.S Made 35 spline ring and pinion that starts as a 9310 forging and then then heat treated, de burred, shot peened and REM finished.  These treatments make for a gear set that can take the shock loading abuse of demolition derby better than other options on the market.  All said and done this setup is 3X stronger than a typical ford 9” and is the industry standard in many other high horse power endurance motorsports.

 

The housing is outfitted with CNC machined billet housing ends/axle saver to house the massive Moser 40 spline hobby stock axle shafts with bronze bushings. A full truss brace, top brace and back brace are added to this housing to provide complete protection.  Fabrication is rounded out with precision jigged ¾” upper trailing arm ears, HD lower mounts, threaded coil spring perches and pinion brake.
